Rails Hosting with Resource Limits 5

Posted by Robby Russell Tue, 26 Sep 2006 00:33:00 GMT

Over the past several weeks, David and Daniel have been working to make our Ruby on Rails hosting options even more streamlined. We’ve been aiming to implement new resource limits on all of our servers.

For example, did you know that when you purchase a Business Level 1 account with us (starting at only $75/month), you’re getting 196 MB of resident memory and 368 MB of virtual memory? The great part about this? You don’t have to configure and manage the server yourself… we do it for you!

If you’re shopping for some hosting… you might take a quick peak at our Rails Business Hosting packages.

..and yes, our standard hosting plans have resource limits too! We hope this will cut down on the noise that you hear from your neighbors.

Other providers give up dedicated boxes for that price. How can you compete?

    Stephen,

Indeed… other vendors can give you a vanilla unix installed server… but you have to manage it yourself. Not all developers have the time, experience, or energy to manage entire servers. It’s safe to assume that very few people/comapnies have helped deployed as many Ruby on Rails applications as the team at PLANET ARGON has.

That is how we compete. ;-)

Resource limits on shared hosting? Are you doing VPS yet? I have been managing my own VPS and while I do like it, I don’t have anybody to monitor it when I go on vacation. This is where I would see a managed solution like this would be perfect. What about managed VPS so that I can have more control over the server. However, I’m not convinced that I need more control as I generally break stuff.

    Dustin,

Heh, that is exactly what we’re trying to provide. Let us handle the stuff that you don’t have time to be an expert at.

    ...mileage may vary.

But think about how much time you need to spend in order to fit your rails application into this memory limit.

Share your thoughts... (really...I want to hear them)
