Author of The Art of Project Management, Scott Berkun, introduces Asshole Driven development.

“Asshole Driven development (ADD) – Any team where the biggest jerk makes all the big decisions is asshole driven development. All wisdom, logic or process goes out the window when Mr. Asshole is in the room, doing whatever idiotic, selfish thing he thinks is best. There may rules and processes, but Mr. A breaks them and people follow anyway.”

    Sounds like he’s really down on this new technique, but I’m already sold on it. I just want to know how I can Maximally Leverage Asshole Driven Development to Synergize my Web 2.0 Marketplace Assets. Anyone?

    I love his book and I think this ADD methodology has been going steady for years. Great to be able to put a term to it though. Perhaps I should let my boss know that he is ADD certifiable now.

    Actually, I think that we first coined ADD at RailsConf last year: it was going to be “Ajax-Driven Development”, that style of development where you throw as many spinners onto the page as Firefox can handle…

    Robby, I was just wondering how well ADD scales. Is it as simple as employing a cluster of assholes?
