AlphaClone on PostgreSQL and Ruby on Rails

It’s hard to deny that I’m insanely proud of the team at Planet Argon for bringing our client’s business idea to reality. We’ve been enjoying keeping up on how the press is responding so far since they’ve launched. I expect that they’ll do well with their business endeavor and look forward to helping them evolve and expand.
I’ve been asked to share some stories and lessons learned throughout the project. Given that we tackled a lot on the Interaction Design side of things in addition to relying a lot more on some of the advanced features of PostgreSQL (we’re dealing with a TON of data here), we have things to share. So, stay tuned as I’ll be highlighting some of those lessons over the coming week(s).
Additionally, if you’re looking for a team to help you execute your next big idea, give us a call!

“posted 1 hour from now”... really hot stuff :)
Beautiful site. Can I ask what you used for your graphs and charts? I’m researching that right now for a site and yours look great. What were the key points that made you pick that graph and chart tool?
Have you worked on MySql before? Why did you change platform?
@Rechnungsprogramm,
Yeah, we’ve used MySQL before… but have been advocates and adopters of PostgreSQL for about six years. I have several posts on our reasons for using PosgreSQL over MySQL, feel free to search the archives on my blog.
First off, I’m a huge believer in PostgreSQL. Having launched several successful projects with it, I find it hard to go back to MySQL. However, I find it challenging to take advantage of some of the more advanced features of the PostgreSQL platform without leaving the Rails approach to data-layer agnosticism in the dust. My question is this – does your team try to remain database agnostic with your PGSQL projects, or do leave the :id column behind do it the ol’ fashioned (some might say ‘correct’) way? I’m curious to know your thoughts on the matter.
Great work and great site, you really develop your themes and this time I’d like to say thank you for the proposition. Thanks for the detailed links too.
